Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 17, 2025

1. Introduction

SciZone ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our media optimization service. As an enthusiast project focused on privacy-first tools, we have designed our Service to minimize data collection and maximize user privacy.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. We do not collect personal information beyond what is necessary for the Service to function.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Local Processing

When you use the local file processing feature:

  • Files are processed entirely on your device - Images are stored temporarily in your browser's IndexedDB for processing purposes
  • No upload to servers - Your files never leave your device
  • No personal data collected - We do not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, or any identifiable information

2.2 Cloud Integration (Optional)

If you choose to use cloud integration with Google Drive or Dropbox:

  • OAuth tokens - Temporary access tokens are stored in your browser's sessionStorage to access your cloud files
  • File access - Files are accessed directly through third-party APIs (Google Drive API, Dropbox API) and processed on your device
  • No server storage - OAuth tokens and files are never transmitted to or stored on SciZone servers

You can revoke cloud access at any time through your Google or Dropbox account settings.

2.3 Anonymous Usage Statistics

We may collect anonymous, aggregated statistics about conversions:

  • Date and time of conversion
  • Original file size
  • Compressed file size
  • Amount of space saved

This data is completely anonymous and cannot be used to identify you or your files. It helps us understand usage patterns and improve the Service. This data is sent to Google Sheets via Google Apps Script for aggregation purposes only.

2.4 What We Do NOT Collect

We explicitly do NOT collect:

  • Personal identification information (names, emails, addresses)
  • IP addresses or location data
  • File names or file content
  • Browsing history or tracking cookies
  • Device identifiers or fingerprints

3. How We Use Information

The limited information we collect is used solely for:

  • Providing the conversion service
  • Understanding usage patterns through anonymous statistics
  • Improving the Service

We do not sell, trade, or rent your information to third parties. We do not use your information for advertising or marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage and Processing

4.1 Local Storage

Files processed locally are stored in your browser's IndexedDB. This data:

  • Remains on your device
  • Can be cleared by clearing your browser's storage
  • Is not accessible to SciZone or any third parties

4.2 Cloud Integration

OAuth tokens for cloud services are stored temporarily in sessionStorage and are automatically cleared when you close your browser session. Files accessed through cloud APIs are processed on your device and never stored on our servers.

4.3 Anonymous Statistics

Anonymous conversion statistics are stored in Google Sheets. This data is aggregated and cannot be linked to individual users. We do not retain this data indefinitely and may delete aggregated statistics periodically.

5. Third-Party Services

Our Service integrates with the following third-party services:

  • Google Drive API - For accessing files from Google Drive (if you choose to use this feature)
  • Dropbox API - For accessing files from Dropbox (if you choose to use this feature)
  • Google Apps Script - For aggregating anonymous usage statistics

These services have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review:

SciZone is not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services.

6. Your Rights

Under applicable data protection laws (including GDPR), you have the following rights:

  • Right to Access - You can request information about what data we hold (though we collect minimal data)
  • Right to Deletion - You can clear all local data by clearing your browser's IndexedDB and sessionStorage
  • Right to Revoke Consent - You can revoke cloud service access through your Google/Dropbox account settings
  • Right to Object - You can stop using the Service at any time

Since we process data locally and collect minimal anonymous statistics, most data control is in your hands through your browser settings.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your privacy:

  • Local Processing - Files never leave your device
  • No Server Storage - We don't store files or personal data on our servers
  • Secure APIs - Cloud integrations use industry-standard OAuth 2.0 authentication
  • HTTPS - All communications are encrypted

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your privacy, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Cookies and Tracking

We do not use tracking cookies or analytics cookies. The only cookies or storage mechanisms used are:

  • Session Storage - Temporary OAuth tokens for cloud integrations (cleared when browser closes)
  • IndexedDB - Local file storage for processing (can be cleared by user)

We do not use third-party tracking services, advertising networks, or analytics platforms that collect personal information.

9. Children's Privacy

Our Service does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone, this applies to all users regardless of age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will address the matter.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
